Richard “Dick” Sawyer retired nine years ago after thirty-eight years in the insurance and financial services profession. Having loved photography since his teens, he has transitioned photography into an avocation, not so much a profession.
Currently, he is president of the Portland Camera Club, one of the oldest camera clubs in the United States. He and his wife have lived in Scarborough for over sixteen years and live within a short distance of many of his favorite photography locations including Higgins Beach, Pleasant Hill Preserve, Scarborough Marsh and the Nonesuch River off Clay Pits Road.

Sunrise at Higgins Beach “Winter sunrises have their own beautiful colors. I was up early on this particular day, intending to capture sunrise at Higgins Beach, and just happened to see this surfer walking with the board on her head. I waited until she was silhouetted against the sunlight reflections in the water and made the image.”Winter Dawn at Camp Ketcha “I was on my way to Higgins Beach early one winter morning and stopped at this location off Black Point Road which is the entrance to the Libby River Farm trailhead. I looked at the old Ice House, saw the early colors of dawn emerging and made the photo.”Hunnewell House in Winter “I made this image in the middle of a winter morning when the sun was projecting beautiful light.
