Since 1994, Scarborough Physical Therapy Associates, PA (SPTA) has provided exceptional and quality individualized care to residents of Scarborough and beyond. In April, they proudly opened the Shockwave Center of Maine, offering a new solution for chronic pain and conditions such as tendonitis, calcific tendonitis, muscle strain and pain, myofascial pain, and more.
The Shockwave Center of Maine offers Focused Shockwave (FSW) and Radial Pressure Wave (RPW) therapies. Both are non-invasive, evidence-based, FDA-approved treatments for musculoskeletal dysfunction. Research has shown benefits for the use of shockwave therapy with plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, medial and lateral epicondylitis, patella tendonitis, gluteal tendonitis, hamstring tendonitis, rotator cuff tendonitis, and more. It can stimulate cell regeneration, promote normal healing, and reduce pain. Over 80% of individuals report significant reduction in pain following shockwave treatment. Treatment typically consists of four to six sessions spaced about one week apart. SPTA’s shockwave team is certified and informed on the latest research and protocols.

This new offering builds on SPTA’s 31 years of experience providing individualized care. June DeStefano Tait, PT, DPT, opened the practice in 1994 and today it has a dynamic group of 19 highly skilled therapists who work one-on-one with patients, never double booking, for a wide variety of diagnoses in private treatment rooms. Therapists establish individualized treatment plans and consult with one another to collaborate and ensure the best outcomes for their patients. SPTA also has two gym spaces along with a beautiful studio with two rehabilitation Pilates reformers which are integrated into treatment.
