As the last of the seasonal businesses closed in October, Pine Point residents and visitors adjusted their activities to fall climates and schedules. Local businesses still open are Good Ways Market and Deli on East Grand Avenue and Pine Point Grill and Bayley’s Seafood on Pine Point Road. Fall temperatures in September and October welcomed visitors and residents to the beach, surfers enjoyed the offshore storm swells, and dog walkers embraced the off-season rules to be on the beach during any daytime hours. We’re pleased to bring you another report from the Pine Point Association.
On September 9, a second annual Vulnerability Assessment Meeting with Town of Scarborough officials and GEI Consultants was held at the Pine Point Firehouse. Attendees had the opportunity to hear about a pilot program to provide a flood plan for Scarborough homeowners. More information is available on the town website. While there, residents may also want to become familiar with the Town of Scarborough’s Route One/Pine Point Road Resiliency Project. With the inevitability of sea level rise, this project will raise road elevations to address flooding during coastal storm events and prevent road closures.
On September 13, a Beach Cleanup Day was organized by Pine Point Association and staffed primarily by locals and employees from two local engineering firms: Gorrill Palmer and WSP. As a testament to the town’s pack-in/pack-out practices, the beach was found to be relatively clean of personal litter and more likely to have remnants of rope, wood, plastic, and metal washed in from boating operations. A second beach cleanup was organized by the Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center on October 18 with similar results. Beach cleanups will continue in the spring.
To serve the Pine Point Community, the Pine Point Association purchased and installed a Little Free Library at the corner of King Street and Tasker Avenue on the grounds of the Pine Point Firehouse.
Our Board of Directors will continue to meet in the winter months, and our 12 sub-committees will continue their work to sustain and improve all beneficial aspects of the Pine Point Community. Subcommittee membership is open to all association members,
Soon, Pine Point residents will settle in for the winter months. Visitors will come for walks on those beautiful clear and crisp days. Summer tourists will book their 2026 vacations and dream about their favorite summer beach days. In this season of gratitude and good wishes, we thank our membership for entrusting us with the good care of the community. We’re also grateful for our good working relationship with the Town of Scarborough.
