Kid Review: El Rodeo of Scarborough

A 9-year-old’s take on Scarborough’s newest Mexican restaurant

By Cam O’Toole, 9

You haven’t been to El Rodeo, yet?! Well, I hope you go soon because it’s really, really good. I went with my family for lunch and we loved it. (We went back again for dinner.) Here’s what we liked.

Before we ordered, they gave us tortilla chips with individual bowls of salsa. My brother and I didn’t have to fight each other when we were dipping. After that, the waiter delivered the kids menu. It was folded neatly in an origami style around the crayons. We’d never seen anything like it before.

The adult menu has lots of pictures on it so you can see what you’re going to get. There is a non-alcoholic pina colada that tastes like real coconut and they have Mexican sodas. I ordered a Mexican Sprite, which was made from sugar cane and tasted the same but it was good.

I had the fish and chip tacos. It was a very nicely presented fried fish in a tortilla with delicious orange sauce on top. Next to that were crispy fries and slices of lime. All of it was on a fancy El Rodeo branded cutting board.

My other family members liked their meals too and the portions were really big. There was more than we could eat so we had to bring some of it home, and I brought mine to school the next day for lunch.

The staff was very nice. Our server smiled a lot and asked us a few times if we needed anything.

We sat in a big outdoor area that was shaded on one side and sunny on the other. There was fun Mexican music playing. The bathrooms were tiled and clean.

We went for dinner another night and I got a burrito. Warning: The burrito is wrapped in paper. Don’t eat the paper like I did!

El Rodeo is a nice place to go for a family dinner. It’s nice to have a fun, new restaurant in Scarborough.
