Kid Review: Burano’s Pizzeria

Wood-fired pizza in the heart of Scarborough

By Xavier O’Dell, 11

My family and I went to Burano’s Pizzeria for dinner. It’s located in Oak Hill in the center of Scarborough, next to Harbor Fish Market and Rosemont Bakery on Route One.

When we walked in, I noticed lights hanging from the ladders and wagon wheels. There were pictures of Italy on the wall and there are fire hydrants and axes behind the bar. Apparently, this is because the building used to be a firehouse. While we were there, 80’s rock like Tom Petty was playing in the background.

Fire-hydrants

The server got to our table quickly – about 30 seconds after we were seated. She was very nice and friendly as she took our drink orders.

We ordered a lot of food. Our appetizer was the specialty wings. The peanut sauce was perfect – not too spicy and not too sweet. The wings were also served with chopped up bacon scattered over them. Why? Because bacon makes everything better.

Our entrée then arrived. It was a brand new menu item – Sicilian style pizza topped with pepperoni, sausage, peppers, and tomatoes. The crust is soft and chewy with a more intense flavor than the regular Neapolitan pizza. Our vegetable was a tasty, fresh Ceasar salad.

Cannolis

For dessert we saved room for the cannolis. The ricotta cheese filling was sweet, soft, and creamy. The shell was crunchy, and it was topped with chocolate chips. Why? Because chocolate makes everything better.

I really enjoyed my trip to Burano’s. Based on my experience, I think it would be a good place for middle-aged parents, their kids, and fire station enthusiasts. It would also be good for anyone looking for a fun night eating Italian-American food.
