Kid Review: The Holy Donut

Please, Mom? They’re healthy!

By Cam O’Toole, 11

Have you ever had a donut emergency? Scarborough is a good place to have one. Recently I visited the Holy Donut. It is located by the marsh. You can tell it’s fun because the building is very colorful, mainly teal. Teal is their company color. Even the stripes in the parking lot are teal. On the side of the building is a pair of wings that you can stand below and it looks like you have wings.

When you go in, it’s a happy atmosphere. The inside is also very teal. Everyone is nice and you can see where they make the donuts. You can tell they are very proud of what they do in the kitchen. There is also a drive-through where you can quickly get donuts.

They serve donuts and drinks like coffee, espresso, tea, and hot chocolate. They have been featured in the New York Times and the Boston Globe. They are famous for their donuts because they have potatoes in them. They use over 200,000 pounds of potatoes each year and all are from Maine farmers.

Kids, if you’re looking for a reason to go, you can tell your parents that it’s all fresh ingredients. They even have one donut that’s all plant based. They never use artificial flavorings or dyes. They use pomegranate juice for making pink and red donuts. You won’t find Red No. 3 here!

They have a lot of variety. I ordered a Vanilla Holy Cannoli. It was a glaze donut with a swirl of cannoli filling on top. It tasted sweet and lemony. My brother had a Strawberry Stripe donut. It had pink frosting with chocolate drizzle. It was soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. He said it tasted like strawberry ice cream. They even have a cheesy bacon donut. You should keep coming back because you never know what new flavors they will have.

Older kids who are looking for a job are welcome here and you get to eat all the donuts you want. Also, if you are a resident of Scarborough you can buy a key chain that makes it so everything you buy is 10% off forever!

The Holy Donut is also unique because they send their donuts across the entire United States. They learned to mail the donuts by sending them to friends and family across the U. S. and seeing how they turned up. Sending donuts would be a good way to keep friendships alive.

The Holy Donut is a good place for anyone who likes donuts or drinks, or wishes they could fly. It also would be fun for special occasions or if you have to bring something to an event.
