By George Mageles, Pine Point Association
As the summer season arrives, along with the return of summer residents and visitors, we’re pleased to bring you another report from the Pine Point Association.
Infrastructure Projects
The two major infrastructure projects planned for Pine Point this year and next – the Water Main Replacement Project for the peninsula and the East Grand Avenue Complete Streets Project – are on hiatus during the next few months. Our membership received detailed information about these projects in our recent e-newsletter sent to all members. The Pine Point Association Infrastructure Subcommittee will continue to communicate with the town to track the progress and impact of these projects on both residents and visitors when the work resumes in the fall.
Meeting with Town Officials
Pine Point Association leaders have been meeting with Scarborough town officials to collaborate on beautification projects at the Fisherman’s Co-op/Town Landing and other public spaces. We meet annually with Scarborough Community Services to discuss beach issues such as parking and access, beach cleaning, animal control, and the Beach Ranger Program. We also meet regularly with town officials to express our concerns about vehicle, bike, and pedestrian safety on our streets.
Annual Meeting
Residents and visitors are invited to learn more about all operations and projects at Pine Point at our Annual General Membership and Community Meeting on Tuesday, June 23 from 5:30–8:00 pm at The Clambake Restaurant. Attendees can purchase dinner and beverages and join us for a social hour in the Compass Room from 5:30–6:30 pm, followed by our business meeting from 6:30–8:00 pm. Town officials will be invited to attend to present information, hear concerns, and answer questions about Pine Point from the association leadership, membership, and guests.
Fourth of July Parade
We all look forward to the 2026 Pine Point Fourth of July Kid’s Fun Run, Parade, and Strawberry Shortcake at the Pine Point Firehouse. We’re pleased to support the Pine Point Parade Committee for this annual event, in particular this year as we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday! See more about this special event on page 12.
Beach Passes
A reminder that a Town of Scarborough Beach Pass can be purchased at Town Hall on Mondays-Thursdays and Community Services on Fridays. The pass is valid at three town beaches – Pine Point at Hurd Park, Ferry Beach, and Higgins Beach. They are valid from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. A Scarborough resident pass is $40; Scarborough resident additional vehicle pass is $5; and the non-resident pass is $200 (limited to 350 in 2026). Beach passes are free for Scarborough seniors (60+), veterans, active-duty military, and income restricted Scarborough residents.
Welcome Back
Pine Point welcomes you back for early-season visits to our local businesses and walks on the beach. Our association is planning for community meetings, holiday events, beach cleanups, and summer celebrations. We hope to see you soon!
